I really like this new chain. My first experience with them was a couple
of years ago while visiting my elderly grandmother in Minnesota. They
have since moved west opening five locations in the south Bay Area.
Stores are either corporate or franchise owned. All follow the same format
and have large variety of breads, sandwiches and salads (way more than
say Le Boulanger) with the usual caffeine selections and a more creative
palate.

Seating arrangements are also varied and include tables (round and
rectangular), booth tables and some lounge chairs with 75% of all near an
electrical outlet (kudos). I’d say the décor is similar to Starbucks in color
palate with a mix of naturals greens and browns and Tuscan warms -
comfortable modern and clean, upbeat. The emphasis leans more toward
food than drinks, but follows the format of welcoming short and long-term
stays.

A big plus for Road Workers is the Free Wireless. Opening your browser
brings you to their web page and terms of usage page -  basically a
Panera advertisement and agreement to not hog the table during peak
hours. Both a small price to pay for free access.

Being primarily a food service facility makes the space cleaner than most
coffee shops by default and design. Staff comes by fairly regularly to wipe
the tables. I was there through the lunch hour when the place was packed.
Tables were cleared and maintained though the floor got messy with food
crumbs. Restrooms were multi-stalled which is nice and fairly clean.

Unfortunately, all stores are not the same. I went to Cupertino the other
day and electrical outlets were less plentiful and at 3:00 pm the dayI was
there the floor was a mess. Both could use a good vacuuming right after
lunch.

All and all, I have put Panera Bread at the top of my list for My Best
RoadWork Places. Although it did not achieve the best overall score, it was
the highest in more of my preferred categories. For more details – visit the
Rating Table.

Bottom line: A friendly, modern with a huge food and drink selection and
a really good workplace seating selection and laptop support necessities
(power,WiFi).
