To Become a NewWorkPlace

Look across the enterprise and through the organizational walls to innovate and integrate creative, distance
and knowledge-work as a new workplace strategy.

Creative and Knowledge-Based Work is the next evolution of work - the 'New Work' of
NewWorkPlaces.
Business models, the way organizations are structured and operate to support work and the culture of
people relationships to each other and work, need to evolve. Today, how work is done and how the
workplace supports this new work is in total incongruence.

Knowledge-work, creativity and innovation move beyond siloed functions and isolated business-line goals.
This work requires business to:
  • visualize a strategy and draw a road map for an integrated, new business model.
  • cut a wide swath across all business divisions and functions
  • synthesize organizational aspects into road maps of integrated programs and processes
  • benefit and support your specific work and workplace
  • enable the creativity and innovation of knowledge-workers in anyplace.
Businesses and business people that...
             What is a "New" WorkPlace?

The Workplace is more than the physical walls that house, contain and confine a company's furniture,
equipment and people. The workplace, defined both in its broadest and narrowest sense, embodies three
concepts - physical entity, functional context and state of mind.

  • Physical Entity: A physical place and destination, typically operated by the company or
organization. The place where you go to work.
  • Functional Context: The broader concept of a company workplace -  the aggregate of all places,
polices and procedures that constitute and comprise the framework, operating systems and culture
    of the company.
  • State of Mind: You. Where you do work. Where you, the individual think, task, communicate,
    engage and interact.

This last definition is the ‘New’ of NewWorkPlaces. Enabled by technology, the NEW WorkPlace is more than
a site, more than a collective legal entity. It is a state of mind that exists on the physical and virtual plane.
Because… today, work is not at ‘the office’. The office is anyplace work is performed - whether a company
site, a home, coffee shop, car, airport or remote, virtual or cyberspace.

This new, un-reality is what is redefining and reframing all of our old concepts of work and the workplace.
The new answers around how work is accomplished, where work is done and what is needed from the
various parts of a business to support people accomplishing successful outcomes are what really comprise
the New WorkPlace.
Do you believe?

  • People and their work is more important than process, technology, tools and structure
  • Knowledge-based work is thinking work
  • Innovation is not the single-task, rote work of the 20th c. Industrial Age
  • Organizational infrastructures should support the work of today and tomorrow, not yesterday
  • Creativity requires a creative workplace in every aspect
  • The ability to work in anyplace is a business asset
  • Distance work is about more than telecommuting and perks
  • On-site and off-site mobility should be business-as-usual model
  • Work in new places brings new input and ideas
  • Technology has become an intrinsic nature of work
  • Technology is a good work tool, not the purpose of work
  • Market changes require business changes
  • Physical workplace change should not be a game of musical chairs
  • 21st business survival, like that of any species, is about evolution or you too will die out
  • If business is different, then you need to be doing business differently
  • Breaking down silos allows the good seeds to spread and grow throughout the entire company soil
  • Only congruency links real business goals with real business productivity

If you believe in any of the above – CONGRATULATIONS!
You are on your way to becoming a 21st century NewWorkPlace.

I believe - each of these statements can be developed into a business goal, that indvidually will transforms
people's attitudes about, interactions with and relationships to the way and where of work. Collectively they
